See the Results You and United Way making a difference!
Through our partnerships with human service agencies as well as our participation in partnerships and collaborations, here are a few of the results delivered recently by United Way.
Learning, Capacity Building, Training

Over 350 adults with disabilities attained the vocational and work related skills necessary for them to achieve greater self-sufficiency.

United Way helped 36 children receive auditory-verbal therapy enabling them to enter mainstream classrooms without the need for an interpreter.

Over 16,000 people participated in First Aid, CPR, and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) classes with the help of United Way funding.

Because of United Way support over 1,143 jobless persons received training to assist them in their employment search efforts.

900 parents were able to improve their parenting skills with the help of United Way.

United Way helped provide 262 adolescent parents with the opportunity to further their educational goals while becoming competent, nurturing parents.
Basic Needs

50,529 persons were able to alleviate hunger with the assistance of United Way of Tampa Bay funding.

United Way of Tampa Bay funding helped keep 2,100 seniors living independently in their homes because meals were delivered to them.

United Way of Tampa Bay dollars helped 340 families continue working with the knowledge that their elderly loved ones were well taken care of during the day at an adult day care facility.

6,792 persons were assisted in preventing eviction/foreclosure and ultimately homelessness through United Way of Tampa Bay’s investment.
Crisis Intervention and Disaster Relief

United Way helped provide safe and secure shelter to over 1,200 adults and children who were domestic violence survivors.

Thanks to United Way support, 117,788 callers with 24/7 crisis intervention and information and referral services.

166 Tampa Bay families were assisted through United Way funding by having their immediate disaster related (flood, fire etc) needs met.

United Way assisted 4,365 persons in avoiding being on the streets and homeless through actual housing opportunities.
Youth/ Child Care
United Way funded 9 agencies in Pinellas and Hillsborough counties to provide full-time summer childcare for 493 low-income children ages 5-13 to reduce the incidence of "latchkey children" (at home without adult supervision) during the summer vacation, and to increase the likelihood that parents would be able to remain employed during the summer months.
1,600 children were matched with a caring adult providing them life-enhancing, mentoring relationships.
17,800 youth participated in before and after-school programs with the help of United Way, giving them a safe, structured place to be while parents were working.
Financial Literacy In 2005, United Way fully funded financial literacy classes for 296 low-income adults. Participants learned how to improve their credit, reduce high interest debt, apply for home loans, obtain and manage checking accounts, and maximize their budgets.
EITC/Tax Assistance In 2005, United Way partnered with multiple local organizations, banks, county, state and federal agencies through the Prosperity Campaign which provided free income tax preparation at 74 sites throughout Hillsborough and Pinellas counties. This free tax assistance yielded 15,043 tax returns, helping local families claim $2.9 million dollars.
