Women's Leadership
Frequently Asked Questions

Q:How does a female become a member of Women’s Leadership?
A:
Simply by making an annual gift of $1,000 or more in her own name to United Way of Tampa Bay. There is no need to specify – membership is automatic at the $1,000+ level of giving.

Q: May a male donor give in honor or memory of his wife or other special female in his life?
A: Yes. He will not, however, receive recognition for the gift. Only the female being honored will be recognized. For example, James White makes a new $1,000 gift in honor of his wife, Susan White. Recognition will be given to Susan White or Mrs. James White.

Q: May a new member to Women’s Leadership take advantage of payroll deduction for her gift? Even men making an honorary gift?
A:
Yes. Yes.

Q: May a woman opt out of becoming a member of Women’s Leadership?
A: Yes, new members will be provided a card on which they may indicate their desire to not belong.

Q: How are the donations made to Women’s Leadership invested in the community?
A: Approximately 50% of the gift is directed to fund summer care scholarships for underprivileged elementary and middle school children. The remainder of the gift is allocated to United Way’s general campaign fund.

Q: May a contribution be directed to a specific intiative as well as to the Community Impact Fund?
A: WL members may, if they desire, direct a portion or all of their gift to the summer care program as well as to the Community Impact Fund.
