2009 Business Cares Sponsors

United Way of Tampa Bay says THANK YOU to the following companies who agreed to go above and beyond their corporate contribution to help further by underwriting the costs of events and marketing materials for 2009. By helping us with these expenses, we are able to direct more dollars into community programs.

Publix Charities

George Jenkins, the late founder of Publix, was a fervent believer of investing in the community. His philosophy of giving set the foundation for Publix’s commitment to community service. As part of that commitment to community service, Publix has chosen the United Way as a means to connect people who need help with those who can help. Through the years, Publix associates and Publix Super Markets Charities have contributed millions of dollars in an effort to better the lives of so many. Publix associates further show their heart by regularly and enthusiastically participating in volunteer activities. The company was honored in 1996 with United Way’s top national award, the Spirit of America Award, for an exemplary record of corporate involvement, volunteerism and the educational campaign of associates. United Way of Tampa Bay presented Publix with the local Spirit of Tampa Bay for their leading corporate support in 2004 and in 2005 & 2006 designated them as a Million Dollar Workplace Campaign. Publix was the Inaugural Children’s Book Drive Presenting Sponsor in 2006 and was the Children’s Book Drive Presenting Sponsor for 2007.

Tampa Bay Rays

Each year, Major League Baseball’s community support continues to expand to reach more people and causes. In 2007, the Tampa Bay Rays and United Way teamed up to kick off the annual United Way Campaign season. Part of the festivities included sorting books from the Children’s Book Drive for distribution to children in Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties schools. The Rays efforts demonstrate their commitment to assisting youth and education programs throughout Tampa Bay. This principle of giving back is practiced by the entire organization. United Way is excited and proud of the partnership with the Rays.

Their corporate guiding principles state they are to act responsibly and involve themselves with organizations that will maximize the impact of their contributions and volunteer time.

Their long-term partnership with United Way of Tampa Bay is moving them toward their goals. Their employee campaigns, corporate contributions, in-kind donations and volunteer projects are making a positive impact in our community. Together we are making a difference.
