DACCO (Drug Abuse Comprehensive Coordinating Office, Inc.) was incorporated as a not-for-profit agency in 1973 through the leadership of representatives from the City of Tampa, Hillsborough County, the Chamber of Commerce, United Way and other organizations. Initially, DACCO provided drug abuse planning, coordination and monitoring for local governmental units. In 1975, DACCO received funding to provide drug treatment services. Over the 30 years of existence, DACCO has expanded to a major comprehensive community-based substance abuse service system reaching over 25,000 persons annually through prevention, intervention and treatment programs to primarily Hillsborough County residents.
